Burden for Europe

A BRIEF REPORT CONCERNING THE EMIGRATION OF THE SAINTS INTO WESTERN EUROPE
On October 26th of this year, a letter was sent from the brothers overseeing Lord's Move to Europe (LME) to the elders and responsible ones of the churches with an attachment entitled Fellowship Concerning the Lord's Move to Europe. It was suggested that the material in the attachment be presented to the churches in nine sessions. Many churches have followed this suggestion, and a number should be close to completing the nine sessions as of this date.
Earlier this month, LME sent the churches a document entitled A Brief Report Concerning the Work under the Care of Lord's Move to Europe.
We would like to bring the saints up to date on the current and proposed direction being taken in Western Europe. Please note the following quotes from Brother Lee (bold portions added for emphasis):
'All of the elders and co-workers need to work hard with much prayer to make the Lord's move today clear to all the saints. The present move of the Lord needs all of us to be given to the Lord.' (Elders' Training, Book 9, The Eldership and the Godordained Way, pp. 17-18)
'The recovery has taken root in the United States and the Far East, but there is a void in Europe. For this reason, the Lord's direction of His present recovery must be toward Europe.' (The World Situation and the Direction of the Lord's Move, p. 17) 'I now see that the Lord sent His recovery to the United States to gain a number of young people to send to Europe. The greatest need for our labor in the Lord's recovery today is in Europe.' (From an unpublished message given by Witness Lee on May 7, 1977, in New York City; used by special permission from Living Stream Ministry)
'Recently, I was wondering why we have had to pass through so much opposition, persecution, and even rebellion in these past seven and a half years since 1984. I believe that I received the answer. The Lord has prepared us during these seven and a half years to get a new way to meet the new need in Europe.' (The World Situation and the Direction of the Lord's Move, p. 46)
Brother Lee stated that the Lord sent His recovery to the United States with Europe in view and that the Lord's bringing His recovery into the new way was to meet the new need in Europe. Brother Lee gave us the direction for the practical working out of the Lord's spread into Europe by small teams emigrating to key cities in Europe and locating near the key universities. On page 49 of The World Situation and the Direction of the Lord's Move, he said, 'This will be our way.'
With this way in view, an emigration training was begun in Anaheim in the spring of this year to prepare the burdened saints for their service in Europe. Our feeling is that those who emigrate to serve full time should serve in London for a few months before going out to other European countries. In August an initial group of sixteen emigrated to serve full time. These saints are now laboring in London with the existing fulltimers. There are seven teams serving in various areas of London near key universities. Most of the serving saints live within walking distance of these universities. In February 2008 a second group of about ten will emigrate to London to join them. In addition, a number of the co-workers in the Lord's recovery have given themselves to serve either full time or part time in Europe.
In January, our first team will emigrate out of London, going to Paris. By summer, other teams will go to Germany, Spain, and Ireland as well as to other parts of the United Kingdom. As early as spring of 2009, we expect to begin sending teams to Italy, Greece, Portugal, and Scandinavia, beginning with Sweden. Other possible Western European countries for 2009 include Holland, Belgium, and Switzerland. We also hope to spread more into Eastern Europe by strengthening the testimonies in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, and Hungary by the end of 2009. Of the saints serving in England and France, thirteen are now supported by the church in London. Another thirty-nine saints, including wives, are serving by being supported through other means.
After the spring semester of the full-time training in London (FTTL), most of the new graduates gave themselves to serve by faith, not knowing where their support would come from. These new graduates have the burden to serve but are from countries where either the testimony is too small or there is no testimony through which their support can be provided. A short time after they began their service, LME received special gifts to support thirteen of them for a period of time. The available funds from these gifts will last only through January 2008.
Service in London and Paris includes those serving near the universities, those serving at Bower House, with Rhema, with Amana Trust, with FTTL, with the mainland scholars' work, with the radio broadcast, and with Courant de Vie. New contacts in London and Paris average more than one hundred per week.
In the unpublished message by Brother Lee quoted above, he said, 'I believe that at the end time, before Antichrist comes, the Lord will shame His enemy by establishing a strong testimony in Europe. I am burdened that we would go to every country in Europe.' May we all enter into this burden by our prayer, by our financial support, and by our offering ourselves to the Lord to serve Him in His move in Europe.
